One of the best ripe Pu’er tea products we’ve tried, “The Starter” is harvested from old trees and will be a welcome addition to any Pu’er drinker’s collection.
It offers a perfect companion and point of contrast with the 1999 Raw & Rare, which is also available in 25 gram packs.
How’s ripe Pu’er tea different?
The dry leaves of this tea have the characteristic red tinge of good quality ripe Pu’er.
This tea has a striking flavour profile. Open the pack and the dry leaves almost shout out “umeboshi“–the dried, pickled fruit (related to the apricot) so popular across east Asia.
The first infusion recalls the aroma of wet earth. Later infusions reward the drinker with a sweetness redolent of burnt sugar. Ideal for a cool morning or afternoon, and a fine digestive aid.
