Quick & easy to brew, this fresh genmaicha mixed with matcha is a brilliant introduction to Japanese green teas.
In the weeks leading up to harvest, the tea farmers of the Uji valley shade their plants. The result is greater flavour due to the extra chlorophyll that the plants are forced to produce.
The chlorophyll-rich leaves are combined with the nutty goodness of roasted brown rice and dusted with shade-grown matcha.
The extra dash of matcha adds even more depth of flavour. As we like to say, this fantastic and fresh genmaicha is like liquid jade in your teacup.
Brewing & Enjoying Fresh GENMAICHA (Special Matcha-Injected Grade)
Start with 8 grams (about 4 heaped teaspoons) per 200 ml of really hot water (at least 95 degrees Celsius). Brew for 1 minute. The 1-minute steeping time ensures that the tea comes up a beautiful peridot-green.
The same leaves yield 2 brews.
This tea is perfect for vegans or those that crave a creamy warm texture to their teas. It's a perfect middle path for me because I generally don't enjoy green teas. It's like a perfect marriage between a green tea and a black tea. The flavours seem to intensify on a second or third infusion of the tea leaves.

Tried this today at the Melbourne (first) Tea Festival and it was amazing! Smooth, sweet and natural with all its goodness. It was just mesmerizing watching the green tea master perform the traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Returned multiple times for more! Definitely how green tea should be known to the general public. This tea has a fabulous earthiness and funkiness. But really it's like a wine that needs to be cellared for a few years. Good Puer aged for a few years is tea like no other. The roasted earthy notes will intensify and soften over time.

As someone who loves the intense flavour of straight matcha and traditional genmaicha, I thought this blend was a bit odd just from reading the description.But after trying it wow. You get the traditional genmaicha flavour but the added dusting of matcha dials up the flavour intensity without overpowering it. Great for those whom matcha is a bit too overpowering and want something more for everyday drinking.
The genmaicha tea has a lovely nutty flavour and is great by itself or accompanied by snacks. The tea leaves last a long time, with the flavour of the tea remaining strong after multiple steeps. The short brewing time makes it a very good tea for those busy days, and can also be taken cold as a refreshing drink.
