Our newest addition to the Pu’er store is the Banzhang Old Tree 100: a high-quality aged Pu’er from the Pu’er Source Tea Factory in Menghai, Xishuangbanna, in the deep south of Yunnan province.
The Banzhang area produces some very fine Pu’er, and many Pu’er fans claim it produces the best Pu’er of all.
So what’s it like? To start off, this tea has a warm toffee aroma. There’s no bitterness to this tea if you flash-pour it gongfu style, which is the way to do it. It brews up nice and mellow and has a subtle sweetness to it.
Brewing & Enjoying Banzhang Old Tree 100 Raw Pu’er
First, place about 5 grams at a time in a clay teapot.
How we brew it: at around 95 degrees Celsius with filtered water. Discard the first wash and then reserve the wet leaves. Use these for second infusion onwards.
Finally, experiment a bit with quantities and infusion times, and enjoy! The same leaves last for 10 infusions or more.
