What better way to open our Featured Tea series than to explore our green tea top-seller:
You could hardly find a more likeable green tea than this genmaicha. Tea lovers at the Melbourne Tea Festival told us they could smell the aroma from several stalls away. The strength of the aroma is thanks to the inclusion of toasted brown rice.
It’s a crowd pleaser in more than one sense, though. Genmaicha is perfect for 6 to 8 servings at a time.
Some Benefits of Fresh Genmaicha with Matcha
It’s a quick-brewing tea. It literally takes one minute. We’ve found that a great way to go is 8 grams per 200 ml of water (at just below boiling point) (read more about that here).
As you now know, this fresh genmaicha contains brown rice. Brown rice’s low GI factor means that it will release energy into the body slowly but surely.
And then there’s the tea leaves and matcha powder. Medical research has confirmed over the years that green tea has some pretty powerful medicinal properties. The leaves and matcha powder are high in antioxidants (especially the matcha), which protect cells from damage.
Green tea can potentially fight
- weight gain, and
- the onset of chronic illnesses
- cognitive function (due to the combination of caffeine and L-theanine), and
- physical performance.
The list goes on…
So here’s the take-away from our debut Featured Tea post: a pack of fresh Genmaicha (Special Matcha-Injected Grade) has the ingredients for all these health benefits and more, plus it’s an absolute favourite among green tea fans. If that’s you, it could be time to stock up!
